CLEP Exams

CLEP stands for College-Level Examination Program, and CLEP exams are pretty much that — exams that count for college credits in the subjects you take them in.

How CLEP Helps You

• Save time. Depending on your college’s CLEP policy, a satisfactory score on a CLEP exam can earn you from 3 to 12 college credits.
• Save money. The cost of a CLEP exam is $72, a fraction of the tuition and fees for the corresponding course.
• Make college more interesting. Skip general introductory courses and move on to more advanced classes, or explore new and challenging academic areas.
• Graduate on time. CLEP can help you to the finish line if you’re a few credits shy of graduation.
• Satisfy a proficiency requirement. Demonstrate your ability in college math or a foreign language.

Though many colleges and universities accept CLEP exam results for credit, many do not. You can find out whether or not a particular school will accept specific CLEP exam scores by going to the College Board web site and typing the school’s name into the College Search bar on the right. When you find the right school and are at its main page, click the SAT, AP, and CLEP tab. Scroll to the bottom. The CLEP information will be there.
